Ms Guevara previously served in the Parramatta Diocese for eight and half years as manager of youth. She was lead facilitator tasked with organising the diocese’s first Synod in 2023–2024 and development of the diocese’s Pastoral Plan for a Synodal Church.

In 2025, she obtained a Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry at Boston College in the United States. She also holds a Graduate Diploma of Theology from the University of Notre Dame.

The former immigration lawyer said the 2016 World Youth Day in Poland had been a life-changing experience.

“I had a profound experience of the Eucharist, and I returned from that pilgrimage just feeling that God was inviting me to something different,” Ms Guevara said.

Ms Guevara said she saw her new role as one of mission.

“I hope to work and serve faithfully, reflecting the truth of God who is with us now, as I oversee the formation of co-responsible laity in Australia’s synodal Church,” she said.

“I particularly look forward to supporting the bishops’ response to young people and women in the life of the Church.”

“I look forward to embracing this new mission in the Holy Spirit.”

She said she was looking forward to the Australian Catholic Youth Festival to be held in Melbourne from November 30 to December 2.

“I hope the pilgrims have a deep encounter of God’s love and community,” she said.

“It’s also an opportunity for youth ministry leaders to connect and I look forward to seeing colleagues and meeting new leaders during the festival.”
