“I think the important part to remember is that it is God who sends us into the wilderness, just as the Holy Spirit sent Jesus out into the wilderness in the Gospels,” he said.
“It is a place for us to grow closer to Christ.”
Fr Tran is the face of a new seven-part Lent series, Journeying Home, produced by the Brisbane Archdiocese, which airs a new episode on its social media channels each week.
He said he hoped viewers might come away with a greater appreciation for the wisdom of the Church, especially in times of trial and the healing that comes through reconciliation to Christ.
“I enjoyed filming all the videos, but the sixth video especially, sitting on the shore at Shorncliffe and talking about the love of Jesus found in the Sacrament of Penance, that was particularly powerful,” he said.
Fr Tran travelled to many locations across Brisbane Archdiocese for filming.
“Our archdiocese … it is a beautiful part of the world, and I think our new series really showcases that,” he said.
Fr Tran was ordained a priest two years ago and has been serving at St Stephen’s Cathedral since then.
He said he loved being a priest.
“Every day, I grow closer to Christ through celebrating the sacraments for His people, in good times and in bad,” he said.
“I learn more about what it means to give of myself to his Church, both through my own small sacrifices and seeing the sacrifices of so many good people in our community.
“I look for new ways to engage our young people and those living on the margins, who both hold a special place in our Lord’s heart.”
Fr Tran encouraged everyone to tune in to the first episode of the series, available on the Brisbane Archdiocese’s website.
