Fr Peter Hoang Kim Huy SDB (Salesians)

The Salesians of Don Bosco Australia-Pacific Province will have a new provincial in 2024, with the appointment of Fr Peter Hoang Kim Huy SDB for a six-year term.

Current provincial Fr William Matthews SDB announced yesterday that Salesian Rector Major, Fr Angel Artime SDB, with the consent of his General Council, has appointed Fr Hoang as provincial for the 2024-2029 term.

Fr Hoang holds the positions of vice provincial and rector of the Salesian community and college in Sunbury. He is also the provincial delegate for social communications.

Born and raised in Vietnam, Fr Hoang entered the Salesian pre-novitiate in 1987 at Oakleigh, Victoria, and made his first profession as a Salesian of the Australia-Pacific Province in 1989. He was ordained a priest at St Jude’s in Scoresby in 1997 by Melbourne Auxiliary Bishop Hilton Deakin. Following ordination, he taught at St Joseph’s College in Ferntree Gully and Dominic College Glenorchy. He was also parish priest of Our Lady of the Southern Cross parish in Collingwood and Clifton Hill for many years while being a member of the Don Bosco formation community.

Fr Hoang will officially commence his mandate as provincial on January 1, 2024.

In making the announcement, Fr Matthews said: While I warmly congratulate Fr Peter Hoang on his appointment, let us offer him our prayers and filial support as he takes up this important service of animation and governance among us for the next six years.”
