Mercy Health and the University of Melbourne have announced the appointment of Brett Manley as Mercy Hospital for Women’s inaugural director of neonatal research and professor of neonatal medicine.
Professor Manley joins Mercy Health with more than a decade of experience as a consultant neonatologist and a professor of newborn health at the University of Melbourne.
Mercy Health group chief executive Angela Nolan said Professor Manley’s appointment will strengthen Mercy Health’s national and international neonatal presence.
“We are delighted to have someone of Brett’s calibre joining us. His work addressing newborn respiratory care has influenced global practice change, and has been recognised and rewarded internationally,” Ms Nolan said.
“Brett’s passion for building multidisciplinary research teams to advance newborn clinical care, education and research will enhance Mercy Health’s ability to provide excellent services to our youngest patients.”
Professor Manley’s work has been recognised in leading international medical journals and he was awarded the 2023 Marles Medal for STEMM, the highest award recognising excellence in research impact at the University of Melbourne. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Dame Kate Campbell Fellowship.
University of Melbourne’s Head of Melbourne Medical School, Sarath Ranganathan said Professor Manley’s appointment strengthens the partnership between Mercy Health and the University of Melbourne.
“This is a great step towards ensuring ongoing leadership and development of neonatal research at Mercy Hospital for Women and the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health at the University of Melbourne.
