General Manager Customer Experience and Growth Allan Dickins said Blueline Laundry’s work was about more than providing laundry services.

“It’s about creating a supportive and inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive, a mission that aligns with the Church’s social teachings to uphold the dignity of work and the rights of workers,” he said.

Blueline CEO Michael Sylvester said the expansion into cleaning meant the enterprise could help more vulnerable Tasmanians into employment.

“Blueline Laundry, by being able to offer employment opportunities to those whose talents might be overlooked by for-profit operators, makes a life-changing difference to those whom it employs and also to the broader Tasmanian community,” Mr Sylvester said.

“That difference includes economic participation, social participation, and providing a place of belonging for people with disabilities and others who are marginalised.”

Mr Dickins said meaningful work for those marginalised from employment not only uplifted the individuals involved but the whole community.

“A significant number of social impact indicators across health, justice, and welfare clearly demonstrate the incredible benefit of social enterprise,” he said.

Mr Dickins said support from the Archdiocese of Hobart had been a significant stepping stone in the success of the enterprise.

Further expansion is a possibility in the future, Mr Sylvester said.

“We would like to see our services expanded beyond laundry and cleaning, to other jobs-focused social enterprises where we can assist people with barriers into Tasmanian-based employment,” Mr Sylvester said.
