The Adelaide Fire Weekend is returning this month, with the event promising to “fan into flame” the gift of faith among youth, young adults, families and participants of all ages. Source: The Southern Cross.
Now in its sixth year, the weekend is a faith formation and renewal experience that includes interstate and local speakers, a live praise and worship band, Mass, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, a children’s retreat, teen sessions and time for community building.
Previous participants have commented that the weekend has supported their faith and ministered to them in a variety of ways.
“It enabled me to experience the powerful presence of God’s love and deeper union with Him”, one participant said.
“On the night with prayer teams, I had a significant Holy Spirit moment,” said another, while a third made the observation that “I regained my joy and peace” through the experience of the weekend.
For event organiser Sr Bernadette Toohey MGL, the Fire Weekend provides a much-needed boost in encouragement to continue living the life of faith.
“A big experience for us each year is to be reminded that we are not alone on the journey of faith and that there are so many other people who are inspired to live the Catholic faith well, whether it is in the context of family life, single life or the religious or priestly vocation,” she said.
“We need to be reminded and encouraged of this regularly and the Fire Weekend does just that.”
The Adelaide Fire Weekend is hosted by the Disciples of Jesus Covenant Community and will take place at Blackfriars Priory School, Prospect, on July 12-13.
