Mary MacKillop Place, the Sisters of Saint Joseph and Mary MacKillop Today are inviting people to celebrate the feast day of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop on Friday, August 8.
Celebrations will take place at Mary MacKillop Place in North Sydney, but will include a livestreamed Mass and school and parish resources for people further afield to participate in the feast day.
“Mary MacKillop Place is a sacred site unlike any other because Mary lived, died and is buried here,” Sr Monica Cavanagh, congregational leader of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, said.
“In this Jubilee Year, we especially look forward to welcoming all faith-filled followers to this official site of Pilgrimage. Visit the Memorial Chapel, attend Mass, pray at Mary’s tomb, support the work of Mary MacKillop Today, and share good food and hospitality.
“There will be free admission to the museum to explore the story of Mary MacKillop and the foundation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, light meals will be on sale, plus the chapel, gift shop and café will be open for extended hours.
“If you are unable to visit during the day, come along to the evening Mass at 6pm. The 10am Mass will also be livestreamed so all can join in on this special occasion.”
Mary MacKillop Place and Mary MacKillop Today have each prepared resources for schools and parishes in preparation for the feast day.
These include prayers and reflections, a downloadable commemorative feast day prayer card, fundraising ideas, feast day poster and a PowerPoint presentation
For details of the feast day, visit the Mary MacKillop Place website.
School and parish resources are available from Mary MacKillop Place and Mary Mackillop Today.
