Tyler VanderWeele (Harvard University)

United States theologian Tyler VanderWeele will discuss his new book, A Theology of Health: Wholeness and Human Flourishing, in a webinar hosted by Australian Catholic University’s Plunkett Centre for Ethics.

Professor VanderWeele is the director of the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University.

Winner of the Martin Institute and Dallas Willard Research Center Book Award, Professor VanderWeele brings philosophy, theology, empirical research and clinical expertise together to present a Christian understanding of health – both of the body, and of the person – as the wholeness intended by God, but marred by sin.

A Theology of Health is a theological exploration that seeks to promote health, healing, and flourishing of the whole person.

The webinar will be co-hosted with the de Nicola Centre for Ethics and Culture at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana.

The session will be introduced and moderated by Xavier Symons, the director of the Plunkett Centre for Ethics at Australian Catholic University and an affiliate of the Harvard Human Flourishing program.

Moral theologian Charles Camosy has referred to A Theology of Health as a “watershed book”.

“If this book is given its due, it could mark the beginning of a new and even stunning moment – one that makes space for explicitly theological ideas and reflection within the highest-level academic discussions of health,” Professor Camosy said.

The webinar will be on Thursday, October 8, at 8am AEDT. Click here to register.
