Bishop Mark Edwards OMI has appointed Sandra Harvey as the new executive director of Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga.
Announcing the appointment, Bishop Edwards expressed his confidence in Dr Harvey’s leadership.
“I am delighted to appoint Dr Sandra Harvey to the position of executive director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Wagga Wagga,” Bishop Edwards said.
“Sandra brings to this role extensive experience in Catholic education, having held principal and senior system leadership positions across four states.”
Dr Harvey joined CEDWW in January 2022 as director of Evangelisation and Religious Education. She previously served as assistant director with Diocese of Ballarat Catholic Education Limited and Catholic Education Tasmania, holding portfolios in mission and identity, education, and school and system improvement.
“Since her arrival, Sandra has been instrumental in shaping our education charter, school effectiveness framework and strategic plan,” Bishop Edwards said.
“She is dedicated to ensuring our schools are vibrant communities of welcome, faith, learning, and service that align with the mission of the Church.”
Dr Harvey’s academic qualifications include three Master’s degrees (Educational Leadership, Religious Education, and System Leadership) and a Doctor of Education from the Australian Catholic University. Her doctoral research focused on developing schools as professional learning communities of religious educators.
Her commitment to Catholic education is further demonstrated through her personal faith, active parish involvement, and leadership roles as chair of the NSW Heads of Religious Education, a Mercy Associate, and a recent director of Marist Schools Australia.
Dr Harvey, supported by her husband, Peter, and their daughter, Kate, said she looks forward to continuing her connection with the diocese and its communities.
“I look forward to building on the great work already underway and providing stability and a clear, collaborative vision for the future of our Catholic schools.”
Bishop Edwards thanked Peggy Saab for her dedicated service as executive director over the past three months.
“Peggy’s expert leadership has been invaluable in guiding our system of schools during this period, and we are extremely grateful for her contributions,” he said.
Dr Harvey will commence as executive director in January 2026.
