The Villa Saint Hiliarion in South Australia (The Society of Saint Hiliarion)

Scalabrini, a not-for-profit aged care and community services provider, has expanded its operations nationally through the acquisition of The Society of Saint Hilarion’s residential aged care and home care services in South Australia. Source: Catholic Health Australia.

The move marks Scalabrini’s first presence outside New South Wales and will increase its residential aged care capacity by more than 25 per cent and its home care services fivefold.

Scalabrini chief executive officer Richard de Haast said the expansion reflects the organisation’s strong reputation for mission-led care and its commitment to serving migrant and multicultural communities.

“This is a defining moment for Scalabrini. We were approached by The Society of Saint Hilarion because of our clear and unwavering mission to support older adults, particularly those from migrant backgrounds, to live with dignity and belonging,” Mr de Haast said.

“This move allows us to reach more people who have built their lives in this country far from their homeland but close to our hearts.”

He said the expansion builds on Scalabrini’s strong growth and its leadership in shaping the future of aged care.

“Over the past two years we have expanded our impact through Live Easy Home Care by Scalabrini and the launch of Live Easy Social, which is helping to address the growing loneliness epidemic in Australia,” Mr de Haast said.

“This next step continues that momentum. It strengthens our reach, deepens our mission and brings Scalabrini’s model of culturally aware care to even more older Australians.”

Chair of The Society of Saint Hilarion, Rosemary Velardo, said: “This is a positive milestone for the Society of Saint Hilarion.

“It will continue our mission of compassionate, faith-based aged care strongly into the future under an organisation that shares our values, deeply respects our history, and has longevity.”

The deal now awaits regulator approval.
