In a signed statement, the bishops – Perth Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB, Geraldton Bishop Michael Morrissey, Broome Bishop Tim Norton SVD, Bunbury Bishop George Kolodziej SDS – said Ms Morey is a “distinguished, experienced and highly credentialed leader of faith and learning” who has served Catholic education in Western Australia for more than 32 years.
The bishops said Ms Morey, currently CEWA’s deputy executive director, has “actively contributed to the planning and implementation of Catholic Education Western Australia’s Strategic Initiatives 2030”.
“In doing so, Annette has established close and robust professional relationships with key stakeholders, including the bishops of Western Australia, school principals, the Minister for Education, and colleagues at the Department of Education and the Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA).”
Ms Morey holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Biology) and a Master of Education (Leadership) from Edith Cowan University, as well as a Master of Religious Education from the University of Notre Dame Australia.
She will commence a progressive transition and hand-over with outgoing executive director Wayne Bull. The bishops paid tribute to Mr Bull’s service.
“In announcing Annette’s appointment today, we, together with the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia, acknowledge and affirm our gratitude for the leadership, service and unwavering dedication of Wayne’s commitment to Catholic education across our state.
“We look forward to celebrating Wayne’s service as executive director, and to acknowledging his 47-year commitment to Catholic education in Western Australia, before he begins the next season of his life journey in retirement at the end of Semester 1, 2025.”
