Major Catholic organisations have congratulated the Albanese Government ministerial appointments for the education, social services, health and aged care sectors.
National Catholic Education Commission executive director Jacinta Collins said Jason Clare’s reappointment as Minister for Education provides continuity of leadership for Australian education, and the Catholic education sector looks forward to continuing a productive partnership.
“We warmly congratulate Minister Clare on his re-election and reappointment and thank the Labor Government for its ongoing support and commitment to ensuring every child in Australia has access to a high-quality education, no matter their background or location,” Ms Collins said.
“We particularly value the Government’s recognition of the long-standing contribution Catholic education has made to Australian society over two centuries and its continued support for school choice, fair funding and sector-inclusive policy.”
Ms Collins acknowledged the Government’s commitment to maintaining existing funding arrangements for non-government schools.
The NCEC also welcomed the Government’s support for sector-neutral policy development and its inclusion of Catholic education in key initiatives such as the Better and Fairer Schools Agreement, Building the Early Education Fund, and student wellbeing programs.
Ms Collins said the Catholic sector was keen to continue discussions on critical priorities around teacher workforce, quality teaching and cost-of-living pressures on families.
Catholic Social Services Australia executive director Jerry Nockles welcomed the appointment of Tania Plibersek to the role of Minster for Social Services.
“Minister Plibersek brings extraordinary experience, clear talent, and tremendous energy to this vital role. Her demonstrated passion for social policy and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable Australians make her exceptionally well-suited to lead in this space,” Dr Nockles said.
Dr Nockles said he was also “delighted to continue our construction relationship” with Andrew Leigh, who has been reappointed Assistant Minister for Treasury and Charities.
“His deep understanding of the sector and commitment to supporting the invaluable work of charitable organisations across Australia has been evident throughout his tenure,” Dr Nockles said
Catholic Health Australia welcomed the re-appointment of Mark Butler as Minister for Health and Ageing and the new appointment of Sam Rae as Minister for Aged Care and Seniors.
CHA chief executive Jason Kara said the organisation was looking forward to building on its strong relationship with the Albanese Government in its second term, continuing a collaborative approach to support the health and aged care needs of all Australians.
“We congratulate the incoming ministers and look forward to continuing to work closely with them on vital reforms to the private health system and the smooth implementation of the new Aged Care Act,” Mr Kara said.
