Peta Credlin addresses the Archbishop’s Dinner in Melbourne (Melbourne Catholic)

Christians, now more than ever, need to make the case for Australia’s Judeo-Christian heritage in the public square, Walkley Award–winning broadcaster Peta Credlin has told a gathering hosted by the Knights of the Southern Cross Victoria. Source: Melbourne Catholic.

For more than 20 years, the Knights have hosted the Archbishop’s Dinner, an annual gala to support the education and formation of seminarians at Corpus Christi College Regional Seminary. Nearly 600 people attended this year’s dinner on October 16, making it one of the largest events on record.

“When Fr Cameron [Forbes, rector of the seminary] asked if I would join you tonight as your guest speaker, my first instinct was, ‘Why me?’ – given my usual bread and butter of politics is not for nights like this,” Ms Credlin said.

“Then I thought to myself, but for the influence of the Catholic Church and the extraordinary faith of the priests and nuns who shaped my life, I would not be who I am today, and so I felt honoured and bound to accept.

“The world needs more priests; the world needs more Christians, and the work of the seminary here in Melbourne is needed now more than ever.”

Ms Credlin argued that the Judeo-Christian foundations that formed modern Australian society are now “under assault … either by direct attack or apathy”, as was evident in the horrific events at Bondi on December 7, 2025. “Every one of us must realise that the days of sitting on the fence are gone. We either fight to protect what we hold dear, or it will be lost.”

Ms Credlin called on those gathered to defend the Christian voice and its values, and “for the preservation of faith in our public life”.
