Kate Fogarty (Catholic Education Sandhurst)

Catholic Education Sandhurst has appointed Kate Fogarty, current principal of Assumption College in Kilmore, as its new executive director.

Ms Fogarty has been principal of Assumption College for the past nine years. She will be well known to many in the Sandhurst Diocese, having previously served as principal of St Joseph’s College Echuca (2009-2014) and director of Catholic identity at Catholic College Bendigo (now Catherine McAuley College) from 2006-2008.

“Sandhurst is where I truly grew into myself as an educational leader and it is where I was both inspired and formed into a deeper level of authentically Catholic educational leadership,” Ms Fogarty said.

“I would be profoundly humbled to be charged with the responsibility of building on the legacy of those who have gone before, while simultaneously walking alongside, in a new way, those who carry the flame today.”

Ms Fogarty will take up the position from January, following the retirement of Catholic Education Sandhurst chief executive officer Paul Desmond. Mr Desmond will retire at the end of 2023 after nine years at the helm.

In a statement announcing the appointment, Catholic Education Sandhurst chair Patricia Cowling and Sandhurst Bishop Shane Mackinlay said Ms Fogarty is “widely recognised as an outstanding educational leader with a reputation for recognising innovation and possibility, and the capacity and tenacity to drive and guide strategic growth and transformation”.

“Kate’s educational background, personal capabilities, experience and expertise ensure that she is well placed to lead Catholic education in the Diocese of Sandhurst into the future.”
