May 28 was a joyful and hope-filled day for the Narellan Vale community in the parish of St Paul’s Camden, as parishioners, families and guests gathered for a turning of the sod ceremony for the new church.
Wollongong Bishop Brian Mascord blessed the site and joined parish priest Fr Michael Williams and others in marking the beginning of this important new chapter.
More than the beginning of a building project, the sod-turning was an act of faith, a moment to give thanks for all that has led to this point, and to look ahead with hope to a church that will become a spiritual home for generations to come.
As Bishop Mascord reflected, this new church will be a place where people can bring their lives before God, their hopes, struggles, prayers and joys, and encounter Christ in the life of the Church.
Inspired by Saint Clare of Assisi, whose life was marked by prayer, simplicity and deep devotion to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, the church building will one day be a place where people gather before Jesus in the Eucharist, draw strength from his presence, and encounter his love in the midst of ordinary life.
