Pope Leo XIV arrives in Beirut on November 30, 2025, during the first international trip of his pontificate (CNS/Lola Gomez)

Pope Leo XIV will undertake an apostolic journey to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from November 6 to 17, the Holy See Press Office announced yesterday. Source: Vatican News.

Pope Francis will visit Montevideo, Paysandú and Florida from November 6 to 8; Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Luján from November 8 to 11; and Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco and Pucallpa from November 11 to 17.

Uruguay, where Catholics make up only 36 per cent of the population, is the country with the lowest number of Catholics in all of Latin America.

Argentina, meanwhile, was the homeland of Leo’s predecessor Pope Francis, although the late Pope, who hailed from Buenos Aires, did not manage to visit during his 12-year pontificate.

Peru, finally, is a country which Pope Leo knows very well – he first arrived as a missionary in the 1980s, later serving as a bishop there and acquiring citizenship.

This journey to Latin America, which will see the Pope visit 10 cities over 11 days, will be his sixth international trip. The schedule for the journey will be released in due course.
