Appointed by Pope Leo XIV for a second five-year term, Sr Naumann is among a select group of theologians from around the world chosen to advise the Holy See on important theological questions facing the Church.
The Pope last week appointed 24 new members of the commission and renewed the mandates of six others, including Sr Naumann, who served during its previous five-year term.
The reappointment recognises Sr Naumann’s outstanding scholarly contribution and the esteem in which her work is held internationally.
She has served on the commission since 2021 and is special advisor to the Vice Chancellor at Notre Dame.
A Distinguished Professor of Theology at the university and former president of the Ecclesiastical Faculty of Theology at the Catholic Institute of Sydney, Sr Naumann has taught and lectured in Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.
Throughout her distinguished career, Sr Naumann has contributed extensively to theological scholarship and served on numerous national and international academic and Church bodies, including two terms on the Pontifical Council for Culture.
The International Theological Commission helps the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith by examining doctrinal questions of major importance and contributing to theological reflection on issues facing the universal Church.
