Darwin Bishop Charles Gauci has expressed deep joy and gratitude following the Jubilee Year of Hope Mass and Eucharistic Procession held in Darwin on Saturday.
The celebration began with a Mass at St Mary’s Star of the Sea War Memorial Cathedral and continued with a Eucharistic Procession through the streets of the city.
The evening concluded at the cathedral with Benediction, marking a profound act of prayer and public witness.
“This was a joyful witness to our faith in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist,” Bishop Gauci said.
“It was also a powerful sign of unity in our diversity and hope for our Diocese in the exercise of the mission entrusted to us by Christ in this Jubilee Year of Hope.”
Participants travelled from parishes and groups across Darwin and the rural area, joining together in a vibrant procession that highlighted the diversity and richness of the Catholic Church in the Northern Territory.
Parishes, cultural communities, school groups, youth movements, religious congregations, and lay organisations were all represented.
Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Charles Balvo also joined Bishop Gauci and the faithful for the procession.
“It was wonderful to see so many people come together,” Bishop Gauci said.
“From our young people to our cultural communities and parish groups, this was truly a beautiful moment of shared faith, prayer, and joyful hope.
“In a world that can so often feel divided, it is moments like this that remind us of the hope and joy that flow from Christ.
“This Jubilee celebration has shown that the Catholic Church in the Northern Territory is alive, diverse, and united.”
