With less than 60 days to go until the Australian Catholic Youth Festival, organisers are calling on pilgrims to put themselves forward as festival performers. Source: Melbourne Catholic.
“Whether it’s through music, dance, drama or spoken word – we’re looking for pilgrim performers to help animate the experience for thousands of young people,” festival director Teresa Rhynehart says.
“This is a chance for pilgrims to showcase their God-given talents with peers from every corner of the country.”
The festival kicks off on Sunday, November 30, at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne, where pilgrims will gather for a “Melbourne festa” in the cathedral grounds and to pray before the World Youth Day Cross and Icon.
Pilgrims will then embark on a pilgrimage walk through Melbourne’s CBD towards the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, for an evening concert and official welcome by Melbourne Archbishop Peter A Comensoli.
“We have some of the best headline acts from around the country, but we want to make sure that the energy, imagination and talent of the young people themselves is also showcased,” Ms Rhynehart said.
Pilgrim performers will be asked to help animate the festival across a variety of locations and times. Applicants must be registered as a pilgrim, leader or volunteer at the festival.
“It’s about creating a vibrant atmosphere that reflects the diversity and faith of our Church in Australia.”
The invitation is to emerging musicians, singers, dancers and pilgrims who have something to offer that will inspire their peers.
