A new four-part documentary series from Common Home TV, a Redemptorist digital media mission, is exploring what it means to live, teach, and serve amid conflict in the Holy Land.
In the Shadow of the Holy Land: Identity and War features in-depth conversations with key voices, including Br Peter Bray, FSC (former Vice-Chancellor of Bethlehem University), Fr David Neuhaus SJ (South African-Israeli Catholic priest ), Hanna Bendcowsky (Jerusalem Centre for Jewish–Christian Relations), and Sami El-Yousef (CEO, Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem).
Common Home TV executive producer Matthew Howard said the project grew from a desire to explore the issue through the lens of different identities searching for belonging and peace.
“The people we spoke with, from Israel, from Palestine, and from those who’ve lived between and beyond both, are people we believe act in good faith for peace,” Mr Howard said.
“They are voices often missing in a hyper-partisan discussion.”
Fr Mans Boli CSsR, Head of Communications for the Redemptorist Province of Oceania, said the project continues a long legacy of Redemptorist witness in areas of conflict and reconciliation.
“Our congregation has always sought to bring hope where fear divides and to speak peace where voices are silenced,” Fr Boli said.
“This series reflects that same missionary spirit, standing with people in their suffering and helping the world see that faith can still open paths toward justice and human fraternity.”
Each episode weaves together personal testimony, historical context, and theological insight to reflect on what reconciliation might mean in a region, and a world, marked by fear and fragmentation. Ideal for educators and those searching for a just peace, the series is available as both a podcast and a vodcast.
In the Shadow of the Holy Land will be released across November and December.
Episode One: Education Under Occupation with Br Peter Bray FSC is out now. Watch on Common Home TV or listen on Common Home TV podcasts.
