Year 12 students at John XXIII College in Perth raised more than $10,000 for Jesuit Mission in their ice plunge challenge (Jesuit Mission Australia)

A total of $60,000 has been raised so far in Jesuit Mission Australia’s One Foot Raised challenge, which sees participants walking to raise funds for at-risk communities around the world.

Launched in the lead-up to the Feast of St Ignatius on July 31, the challenge gets its name from St Ignatius himself, the founder of the Society of Jesus. He espoused the concept of keeping “one foot raised” to readily respond to others’ needs.

Jesuit Mission Australia works in more than 10 countries across Asia and Africa to uphold the innate dignity of people living with the effects of poverty, especially the most marginalised and vulnerable.

The charity is calling on others to help it reach the target of $75,000 for the organisation’s 75th anniversary year.

It’s still not too late to sign up to take part in the challenge or to sponsor participants.

Individuals and community groups can participate anywhere – local areas, parks, ovals, gyms or even on treadmills at home. Participants can choose to walk 7.5km, 15km, 25km or 75km over any duration of their choice.

Or, to sponsor any of the existing teams, just click here on any of the “Sponsor” buttons for participating organisations.

The fundraising leaderboard on the Jesuit Mission website showcases the strong contributions from participating schools and parishes, including more than $30,000 from St Ignatius’ College Riverview.

At John XXIII College in Perth, year 12 leaders and staff took part in a creative ice plunge in a giant inflatable shark and raised more than $10,000.
