A team of Catholic Mission representatives visiting Mongolia had the privilege on Friday of witnessing the unveiling of the official program and logo of Pope Francis’ historic visit to Mongolia in September.
The five-member team arrived in Ulaanbaatar as a continuation of the ongoing partnership with Cardinal Giorgio Marengo and the local community.
This mission visit signifies not only the strengthening of the spiritual bond between Mongolia and Australia but also showcases the shared commitment towards serving the local communities. By initiating and supporting several mission development projects, Catholic Mission, in partnership with the local Church and communities, aims to help the young Mongolian Church grow and thrive.
Cardinal Marengo noted during the unveiling ceremony, “Our collaboration with Catholic Mission is instrumental in realising our shared vision of faith and service in Mongolia. As we anticipate Pope Francis’ visit, we are reminded of the significant role international collaboration plays in supporting the growth of our young Church.”
Pope Francis’ visit, the first of its kind in Mongolia, is a monumental event for the country’s Catholic community of just 1500 members. Of particular significance is the Papal inauguration of the House of Mercy, a mission development project supported by Catholic Mission. The project emphasises the dedication of the missionaries and the impactful role of Catholic Mission’s work within the local communities.
“The Papal visit is a testament to the years of hard work and commitment by our team and the local Church. It’s an affirmation of our shared dedication to supporting the Mongolian people,” Cardinal Marengo said at the unveiling.
Pope Francis’ visit marks a significant milestone in the flourishing relationship between Mongolia and the global Catholic community. In a statement, Catholic Mission said it was thrilled to be part of this historic journey, which is a testament to the power of shared faith, hope, and love.
