The Josephite Laudato Si’ Action Plan team has released its second “conversation package” designed to spark discussion on the environment and Pope Francis’ encyclicals Laudato Si’ and Laudate Deum. Source: Sisters of Saint Joseph.
Titled Blinded By Our Might, this community and educational resource has been developed by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart in collaboration with the Sisters of St Joseph Lochinvar. It is the second of a planned five-part “Urgent Hope” conversation package.
Blinded By Our Might focuses on the recognition that humanity is the most powerful species on the planet. In Laudate Deum, released in 2023, Pope Francis said our species is now regarded as “having turned into highly dangerous beings, capable of threatening the lives of many beings and our own survival”.
He called on humankind to dial back its reliance on technological fixes as the remedy for the climate crisis.
Rather than remaining “blinded by our might”, this resource focuses on the urgency of remembering humans’ rightful place within creation. It encourages people to be inspired by the Pope’s words and choose the “path of wisdom” and “begin to think of ourselves differently, in a humbler … way”.
The resource can be used Individually or in a group setting with friends, family, students or colleagues.
