The assembly was launched on March 7 at St Mary’s Cathedral Parish Centre, and brought together about 120 youth and young adults from across the archdiocese.
The event featured key addresses from Perth Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB, Vicar General the Very Rev Fr Vincent Glynn, and Catholic Youth Ministry director Adam Phillips, who each spoke on the importance of youth engagement in the life of the Church.
Mr Phillips expressed his excitement about the initiative; he said it was inspiring to embark on this synodal journey with the young people of the archdiocese as it discerns the formation of a Catholic Youth Council.
“The level of engagement at the launch was incredibly encouraging, and we look forward to walking this journey together,” Mr Phillips said.
The Catholic Youth Assembly marks a significant step towards increased youth involvement in the Church, with a vision to create a dynamic and representative Catholic Youth Council.
The next milestone in this journey is the first “Listening and Discernment Session” on April 2, which will serve as a foundational gathering for the formation of the council.
Youth and young adults are encouraged to take this important step in shaping the future of Catholic youth leadership in the archdiocese.
