Two of Australia’s largest Catholic health organisations have appointed new chairs, with Paul O’Sullivan to chair St Vincent’s Health Australia and Greg Cooper appointed to the same role at Calvary.
Mr O’Sullivan has been a director of St Vincent’s since 2019, and deputy chair since 2024.
On August 1, Mr O’Sullivan will replace Paul McClintock, who is retiring from the St Vincent’s board after 12 years of service (with six years served as chair).
Richard Haddock, chair of Mary Aikenhead Ministries – the body which acts as stewards of the work of the Sisters of Charity, the founders of St Vincent’s and appoints the organisation’s directors – said he was extremely grateful for the leadership and contributions of both men.
“I’m extremely happy that Paul has agreed to continue his association with St Vincent’s, particularly as the organisation passes through a period of immense change and transition in health and aged care,” Mr Haddock said.
Mr O’Sullivan said he was taking on the role of St Vincent’s Chair at a time of enormous change within the sector.
“These are uncertain times for health and aged care, but St Vincent’s looks to the future with optimism,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Trustees of Calvary Ministries announced the appointment of Greg Cooper as the new chair of Little Company of Mary Health Care Ltd (Calvary) to replace Jim Birch, who will retire later this year.
Mr Cooper, who sits on a number of boards, including Perpetual Limited and NSW Treasury Corporation, will start in his new role in November.
In welcoming him to the role, Trustees’ chair Michael Lee said that in addition to his extensive corporate experience, Mr Cooper has also served on a number of Church, social welfare and mission-related organisations.
