God’s grace in daily life has been captured in a new book by Brisbane journalist and writer Lorraine Page. Source: The Catholic Leader.
Ms Page began writing Thank God it’s you! Stories of Unexpected Grace two decades ago.
“I’ve always had this interest in the miraculous, the supernatural,” she said. “It all started when I was working for The Catholic Leader.”
Ms Page said just by talking to people she could tell how God was present in a person’s life.
“I’ve always wanted to publish a collection of miraculous stories. The Catholic Church offers all the miraculous, really, we believe in the miraculous,” she said.
She was inspired by books she had read about angels that had worked in people’s lives.
One of the stories that stood out for her made it to the opening chapter, titled Victoria’s Balloons.
“It’s a heart-wrenching story that there’s hope … right at the end. Nothing changes, the child is still lost but the family is comforted in quite a miraculous way,” Ms Page said.
“It gets quite a reaction from people when they read that one.”
Some stories fell into her lap, she said, while others she had to scout.
She is a parishioner at Mother of Mercy Parish in Brisbane and has included two stories from fellow parishioners.
Ms Page said miracles were God moments that only shone when “something pretty sticky is happening in your life”.
“You could be broken in some to some degree, or circumstances might have broken (you, when) suddenly, God breaks through all of that, and you have this experience of him,” she said.
“These God moments are not likely to happen when everything is going wonderfully well, it’s mostly going to happen when things aren’t and that’s really the flipside of miracles.
“But we have to get to that point for God to really work even more strongly when he does break into our situation.”
