Zambian Bishop Edwin Mulandu celebrated the World Mission Sunday Mass at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Brisbane on Sunday, gathering parishioners and friends of Catholic Mission for this day dedicated to the missionary work of the Church.
“It was like a dream,” Bishop Mulandu said. “To celebrate World Mission Sunday Mass here in Australia is a great blessing. I thank God for this opportunity and for the spirit of unity that reminds us we are one Church, one family, wherever we are in the world.”
Bishop Mulandu is the guest of honour of Catholic Mission this October. His visit offers Australian supporters a chance to hear first-hand about the life and faith of communities in his Mpika diocese, and how their generosity continues to bring hope and transformation.
“As individuals, we each have a mission,” Bishop Mulandu shared. “When we open ourselves to God and say, ‘Here I am, Lord, send me,’ He uses us to bring hope and change to others.”
Bishop Mulandu’s journey began in Brisbane and will continue along the East Coast, with visits to Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, before travelling west to Perth to celebrate a special Zambian Mass with the local community.
To allow more people to hear Bishop Mulandu’s reflections, Catholic Mission will host a special online webinar, World Mission Month in Focus: Our Work in Zambia in Action, on Friday at 11.30am (AEDT).
During this event, Bishop Mulandu will share insights into key projects supported by Catholic Mission, including the Maize Mill initiative, a project empowering women and families to overcome poverty, and the Maternal and Child Health programs in Chalabesa and Chilonga, which are providing life-saving care for mothers and babies.
