The project, about 86 kilometres north-east of Hobart. is a partnership between Loreto Community Housing (an agency of the Hobart Archdiocese) and the East Coast Anglican Parish, supported through HAFF, responds directly to Tasmania’s growing housing challenges.
“The completion of this development is a significant milestone not only for Loreto Community Housing, but for Tasmania as a whole as the first Housing Australia Future Fund project delivered in the state,” Cody Burdon, Loreto Community Housing chief executive, said.
“Through a strong partnership with the East Coast Anglican Parish and support from Housing Australia, Catholic Development Fund, and Homes Tasmania, we have established 36 modern homes built by St Joseph Affordable Homes that will provide security and opportunity for individuals, families and key workers in the region.”
“This project demonstrates what is possible when organisations come together with a shared commitment to addressing housing needs and building stronger communities.”
Managed by Loreto Community Housing, 16 dwellings will provide homes for individuals and families on Tasmania’s Social Housing Register. A further 15 homes have been allocated for affordable housing, providing opportunities for key workers in the region. The remaining five dwellings will be transferred to the East Coast Anglican Parish.
This project helps to increase overall housing supply and contribute to a diverse, mixed-tenure community.
The East Coast Anglican Parish played a pivotal role in bringing the development to life by providing the land for the new housing project.
“We are thrilled to play a part in addressing the critical need for housing within the Triabunna community,” Sue O’Rourke, St Mary’s Church Warden, said.
“A new parish centre has been a long-held dream for us, and seeing it finally become a reality is incredibly exciting.
“This development has enabled us to completely rejuvenate our facilities, introducing a modern auditorium, multi-purpose meeting rooms, and a commercial kitchen. These updated spaces will act as a vital home for our local outreach initiatives, including our vibrant youth programs and our free weekly ‘Lunch with Mates’ community meal,” she said.
