Mr Blagaich, who is executive director of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority in Western Australia, will take up his new role in September.
QCEC’s independent chair Margaret White said Mr Blagaich’s appointment was the result of a nationwide search.
“Allan Blagaich brings to QCEC experience as a former teacher, school principal, and an education policy and curriculum leader,” Mrs White said.
“This experience makes him the ideal person to lead Queensland’s peak body for Catholic education and I am certain he will advocate strongly for the state’s 312 Catholic schools and 29 Catholic kindergartens.”
Mr Blagaich replaces Professor Lee Anne Perry who was the previous executive director prior to her appointment as professor at QUT.
Mr Blagaich served as the chair of the Australasian Curriculum Assessment and Certification Authorities in 2012 and 2013 and continues to chair the Australasian Curriculum Assessment and Certification Authorities Vocational Education and Training committee.
He is also a board member of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority representing Western Australia.
Mr Blagaich was a foundation director of the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership and was one of the three writers charged with developing the Australian Professional Standard for Principals.
