The Gawler R-12 Catholic college will become the home of the first Liverpool FC Academy in SA and the first school in Adelaide to offer a high-performance soccer school program delivered by the academy.
The local community will also have opportunities through several community training sessions and holiday programs at the college.
“This is an exciting collaboration between Liverpool Football Club International Academy Australia and Xavier College,” Kevin Kalinko, director of LFC International Academy and Australian College of Physical Education said.
“We share similar values as well as a strong desire to integrate world-leading football into the college.”
Mr Kalinko said the partnership would present Xavier College students “pathway opportunities into tertiary education in sport, health and fitness at the Australian College of Physical Education”.
Xavier College principal Mark Flaherty said it was a privilege to be able to collaborate with the academy because of the programs and opportunities for students and the wider community, and also because of the alignment in values of the groups involved.
The high-performance soccer program involves developing players technically, tactically, and physically but also input into social and mental development, career pathways and life skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership.
“In this mission Liverpool FC International Academy is perfectly aligned, and we are proud and excited about working with the college to create a unique environment for students at Xavier College, along with players and coaches in the local community,” said Liverpool FC International Academy Australia head of Football Operations Scott Collis.
