Mount Isa priest Fr Mick Lowcock is in the running for the 2023 Queensland Senior Australian of the Year Award to be announced next week. Source: The Catholic Leader.
Fr Lowcock is well-known as an indigenous advocate and founder of the North West Queensland Indigenous Catholic Social Services.
He’s been honoured many times for his work. Two years ago, the Townsville Diocese priest was named a Queensland Great by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk as part of Queensland Day celebrations.
He’ll be among elite company on awards night in Brisbane next Tuesday, with 19 people nominated to be named the Queensland Australian of the Year, Queensland Senior Australian of the Year, Queensland Young Australian of the Year and Queensland Local Hero.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and can be watched on ABC iView from 6:30pm (local Brisbane time).
Winners will then join the other state and territory recipients as national finalists for the national awards announcement on January 25, 2023, in Canberra.
