Brisbane’s Catholic community will have the opportunity to hear from internationally-respected spiritual guide Benedictine abbot Christopher Jamison when he visits the city this month. Source: The Catholic Leader.
Abbot Jamison is a British Benedictine monk, broadcaster and author of Finding Sanctuary and Finding Happiness, both of which apply monastic wisdom to everyday life and modern well-being.
He will speak in Brisbane on September 10-11 at Xavier Hall, Holy Spirit Seminary. The September 10 event is for clergy and the September 11 session, from 9am to 10.30am, is open to all.
The events are hosted by formation.org.au in partnership with the Global Centre for Catholic Leaders and Archdiocesan Ministries.
formation.org.au is Australia’s newly-established membership association for those who design, facilitate, lead and direct formation for mission across the Church.
Chief executive officer and operations lead Lana Turvey-Collins said the collaboration was a welcome one for the Church.
“We are delighted to be a part of this collaboration and for the Brisbane Catholic community to have this opportunity to be in conversation with Abbot Christopher,” Ms Turvey-Collins said.
She said the Benedictine tradition offered wisdom that spoke directly to the pressures facing today’s Church leaders.
“We live incredibly fast-paced lives, and as missionary leaders, looking to the future can feel overwhelming at times,” she said.
“Abbot Christopher’s teachings on the theology of grace and communal discernment practices from the Benedictine tradition has to be an essential part of how we practice Synodality and lead into the future.”
Ms Turvey-Collins thanked Archdiocesan Ministries and the Notre Dame University’s Global Centre for Catholic Leaders for making the visit possible.
Registration for the public event is free. RSVP must be completed by Wednesday.
